As for the flea spray, is it the one particular one that Kayleee has mentioned that causes this potential harm, or is it any flea spray or treatment from Hartz? I only ask because my mom recently brought home a new cat, who was originally a stray, and she bought Advantage from the local vet's office because he has a horrible flea infestation (well, for a stray living in the countryside, what can you expect?).

Should I tell my mom to stop with the Advantage? Should I contact the vet's office?

Anything you get from your vet should be fine. The advantage is safe to use on your cats.

Just don't use anything from the stores. Always go to your vet.

Echo is almost back to normal He woke me up at 5am biting my toes as he has since he was a kitten and meowing for me to feed him He still has some slight tremors but all in all he is doing good.

Snow is doing much better also but she still faired worse, so far so good on her eyes. She watches me as long as I'm close by and the vet is hopeful that her eyes will be fine over time

My daughter is babying both as much as they'll let her she even put snow and echo both to bed in one of her doll beds and snuggled them in with her own blanky.

Me, I have learned my lesson the hard way and will never buy flea drops OTC again. But my vet did admit that the prices of prescription Flea meds and even heartworm meds should be more affordable and this might eliminate companies such as Hartz from selling a dangerous product. I did contact Hartz and they sent me to their website to read the "Presidents" statement over the Hartz Advantage Flea and Tick drops. In short they of course blame it on "owner error" 90% of the time.


So Linz as for your question of which product. The one that caused all this was Hartz Advanced Care 3 in 1 flea and tick drops. But according to my vet and several other people I have talked to, it's also known that the Hartz Flea and Tick Shampoo has been known to kill or harm puppies and kittens under 3 months old. So as one person said in their post, I wouldn't use ANY product made by Hartz!( The bird seed might choke birds too)

I'm so glad to hear that your pets are doing SO much better now! I hope that they continue to improve. I hope that something gets done soon w/ Hartz but I have a couple of questions...I've been using their wormer for my two cats...How safe is the wormer? My other question is I bought a special shampoo also made by Hartz but it's a moisturizing one not flea and tick. I haven't used any flea and tick products b/c I have no need to in the area that I live in... If anyone can answer those questions for me I'd like to know what you think. moonchicklovesku, don't use ANY Hartz products, they don't deserve your money spent on their products. The safest wormers are from your vet only, they are also the most effective. OTC dewormers often fall into the same category as OTC flea and tick products, they may be harmful and most are ineffective.

Please ask your vet for recommendations on cat shampoos, if your cats are healthy, they shouldn't require bathing at all. If their fur is lackluster or dry or whatever, then look closer into the diet you're feeding them, etc.
