Pet cloning...
Pet cloning...
If you knew your pet's time was limited and money was no object- would you clone your pet?
I wouldn't cause there will always be only one Honey. But interested in what others think.

Re: Pet cloning...
No, I don't think so, tempting as is the idea of getting to start all over with my wonderful Winnie or Q... I could be mistaken, having never been rich, but I like to think that if money were no object I would spend the pets' part of my wealth on rescue and veterinary medicine research... which come to think of it might include experimental cloning of joints or organs, but it wouldn't be one specific, mortal dog or cat, if that makes sense?
Re: Pet cloning...
Absolutely not. Cloning is not a garantee for optimal health anyway, and the cloned pet would never *be* the original....temperament, personality, even specific characterisitcs in coloring, etc cannot be achieved through cloning.
For what the current cloning companies charge for the procedure, I think it is preying on pet owners' emotions, finances, and the companies are out to make a profit for what (I feel) is a truly immoral exploration into the unknown.

No, although it's hard for me to say this. In a perfect world, Mr. Blue and Carmel would live much longer than they will! But what I will do if I have the chance is rescue/adopt another funny-looking hound and feline princess who need homes. In a way, that is the best tribute I can pay to them, I think.

Re: Pet cloning...
Since this is like a hypothetical question, I would although maybe not till all the glitches have been ironed out. I would want to know that the cloned pet would be as healthy as a normal pet. ...

In a way it wouldn't be a replacement... I guess i just wish i could have ONE kitten from each of my cats... But realistically I would just get a shelter kitten. I desperately want a mixed breed persian or a swimming cat ... But i just can't seem to overlook the phrase 'love needs no pedigree'...

Re: Pet cloning...
i was talking about this with my boyfriend a few weeks back, i said i'd like to clone cleo if money was no object so i'd never be without her, but that's only my selfishness cus i know she won't live forever & i'd be heartbroken when/if anything happened to her - cloning is all about being selfish. i'm not saying it's always a bad thing but... my heart says yes to this, my mind says no. it would be comforting but wrong
Re: Pet cloning...
hhmmm...looks like I don't get in on the official votes, but I would have to say no way...as others have said...creepy...lack of emotion that you grew to love from that pet...medical issues...
I agree....if money was no object, my mom has an large acreage and her dream is to have a rescue shelter for pets...hugs runs and climate controlled conditions for dogs, and a large climate controlled house with rooms and a protected sunroom and lots of climbing things for cats...
Oh to win the Powerball *sighs*

Re: Pet cloning...
Also there are many abandoned/homeless cats waiting at rescue centres to be adopted who could do with a good home rather than have the same cat over and over (bit like groundhog day)...
However... I'd quite like to clone myself !! ha ha - sometimes I feel I'm the only person I can get an intelligent conversation out of round here. Talking to "myself" might not be that interesting though!
