Moonkitty,

I don't think she can wait until Tuesday: that is 3 days away. Traci would know better but I've had a UTI and man oh man does it ever cause massive pain and discomfort. I can't imagine your poor creature suffering for so long for something that can be easily cured with antibiotics. You've got to get her to an emergency vet TODAY. I'm sure your Mom will be compassionate when you tell her how dire the situation is: after all, how can anyone let a fellow creature suffer?

We've explained that....a urinary tract infection is serious, especially if blood is in the urine. Only the VET can determine this through an exam and a urinalysis to determine the infection and source of blood. A urinary tract infection is not the only thing that could be producing blood, this is why you MUST get your kitty to a vet. She is depending on you to take care of her, it is always better to be safe than sorry.

Moonkitty,

Traci mentioned in her post about obstruction and the seriousness of this. The information is true. Also, only the vet can diagnosis Anck Su Namun's problem and determine the proper treatment at his point

In Jan 2003, my cat Smokey was pretty sick by the time I took him to the vet for treatment of his UTI. Three days later he was back at the vet with an obstruction. They had to immediately perform emergency surgery on him or he would have died.

I was not very knowledgeable about cats at that time so I missed alot of the signs that he was sick. Please take the advice and get your kitty to a vet now.

Read this and show it to your mom:

Urinary Tract / Reproductive Tract (A CheckList):

Is kitty urinating more frequently or less frequently?
Is kitty straining in her litterbox?
Is kitty vocalizing loudly or frequently during trips to the litterbox?
Does kitty's abdomen feel painful when touched?
Does kitty try to urinate in odd or unusual places?
Is there blood present or a darkening of the urine?
Is kitty only producing small drops of urine?
Is kitty continuously grooming or licking at her genital areas?
Is there any discharge from the genital area? (penis, vulva)
If there is discharge, is it bloody, mucousy, greenish or pus-like?
Is kitty drinking more water than usual?
Is kitty dehydrated?
Is kitty's appetite considerably increased or decreased?
Does kitty seem to be in pain or discomfort?
Is kitty weak or lethargic?

NOTE: The above symptoms could indicate urinary tract infection, urinary tract obstruction (particularly in males), pyometra (in females), crystal formation in the urine or bladder, diabetes, inflammatory conditions in the urethra or bladder, bladder infection, kidney infection, blunt trauma to the bladder or urethra, etc, all of which warrant immediate emergency veterinary attention. In male cats, urinary tract obstructions can be fatal in a matter of minutes to hours, please do not take chances, get your kitty to an emergency vet ASAP!

Can I chime in here in favor of getting to a vet at once?

My previous cat was still a kitten when she got a UTI. For about half a day I watched her going steadily downhill. I took her to a vet as soon as I could to one that very day. She was found to have a UTI, bacteria, blood, and crystals.

Medicine cleared it up and she lived to be nearly 13, but she had to be on a strict special prescription diet for the rest of her life.

I figure I was very lucky that my kitty lived through that.
