What is the effect of cat nip on other cats?

This may seem a little strange but what are some of the reactions that your cats have to cat nip? I think it makes mine really hyper...like [i]extremely[/i] hyper and at other times it makes them really mellow like. I've heard it's kinda like the kitty form of marijuana...Is that really true? I just kinda wondered b/c I really don't know much about cat nip but we have cat nip toys and a kitty condo that is covered in carpet w/ cat nip in the condo itself.

Depends on the cat..some of my cats get hyper when exposed to it, others really mellow out. In my house it seems like the older ones mellow more, while the younger ones get hyper.

Mythie sort of has a a glazed look when she encounters cat nip
Bobbie rolls over and waggles her paws in the air and sort of writhes around and dribbles...
Zooey gets the munchies and starts to chew whatever it is that is releasing the catnip smell... toys paper leaves... etc etc
