Davet-HELP-
The two main acid ingredients are no longer carried at the pharmacies. I did however make up the Genetian Violet compound. I used it yesterday and today her ear is full of white/yellow jelly stuff? Is this what it is supposed to do? She doesn't want me touching that ear? Did I make it worse? If so I guess it is back to the vets tomorrow.
Re: Davet-HELP-
i have no idea what the white fluffy stuff it, never used the gention vilolot solution, i got that off one of these sites. i just canpt picture the white stuff unless it is ear debris coming up from the lateral canal..Traci--any ideas???
Re: Davet-HELP-
then i would suspect discharge material coming up from the lateral canal...or gook that has been flushed up...try a q-tip and pull the stuff out but don;t insert the q-tipp any farther that the size of the cotton tip, in other words hold the q-tip right at the base of the cotton so you can't cause any harm....but i still amnot sure what is there...most infectove gook is dark in color....can you take a pic???
Re: Davet-HELP-
I'm not familiar with the solution you used....but I would call your vet and ask if the ear exudate was examined under a slide, or was cultured...this is the only way you'll know what you're dealing with in order to provide the most effective treatment.
This is my favorite treatment for ear infections, it is most helpful for pseudomonas:
First step: OtiFoam - apply to inner ear, massage gently, wipe dry (once daily for 3-5 days)
Second step: Alocetic Ear Rinse - apply to inner ear, massage gently, wipe dry (once daily for 3-5 days)
Third step: Tresaderm - apply 3 drops to ear canal, massage and wipe excess (twice daily for 7-10 days)
May include 7-day course of clavamox.

Re: Davet-HELP-
traci--whats alocetic...is it mainly acetic acid???that salso is good...but i am surprised that tannic acid and salsilic acid are no longer avaiable...i used to by it byt the half pound and mix up the solutions...
Re: Davet-HELP-
Guess I will be calling the vet tomorrow to see if they cultured or looked at it under a slide. She keeps digging at her ear and the stuff hanging in it is white/beige in color and the consistency of phlem(for the lack of a better word). She doesn't want me touching it much less sticking anything in it, better left up to the vet.
