New puppy ate pantyhose

Post by ShelbysMom »

My daughter had oral surgery and the doctor told her to make a ice pack out of a pantyhose leg and fill it with frozen vegetables. Well, the dog got it and ate it. I remember seeing that pantyhose is one of the worst things a dog can eat so I had to induce vomiting.
Afraid to use the syrup of ipecac or hydrogen peroxide, I used a 1/2 teaspoon of salt placed way on the back of her tongue.....boy did that work like a charm. About 10 minutes later, she went into the yard and threw up the pantyhose.
I just wanted to share this with you if anyone ever has to save their dog's life in a hurry.

those items are pretty difficult to diagnose even with x-rays...when i started at the emergency clinic the first x-ray i saw, i said panty hose---got a negative response. but they went in rectally and pulled out just panties so i missed it by two legs...but when you see a huge mass and completly empty intestines before it, you can almost be sure those are the items...we sent them home withg the owners..never heard whether the washed and reused them..

eeww...ummm....I do not think I would want to reuse something that had been through my dog's digestive track...

I am glad the puppy is okay...and being a normal puppy :)

Are you certain she vomited all of it? Watch her with an eagle eye in the next 48 hours.

Yes, I am sure she threw up all of it. We noticed she ate them right away and we got her to vomit within 15 minutes of her eating them. She needs constant watching....she gets into lots of trouble. Is it a good thing that she graduated from eating rocks in the yard to household items?? My other dogs weren't quite like this one. But, she's the cutest and most affectionate Doberman I've ever had. Even if her ears refuse to go up...it's just part of the whole Crystal experience.
Woops, I have to go.....I'm hearing chewing and ripping sounds coming from the living room...I think it's the carpeting.

And no, davet, I'm not planning on using those pantyhose again...LOL

Haily ate a knee high pantyhose a few nights ago. Lazy, my beagle puppy got a hold of one, so I tied knots in it and was playing with her. Then I forgot about it, the next evening Haily was outside pottying and out came the pantyhose!!!! EWwwww!!!! Glad it came out, because she had surgery twice in the past year, first time to remove the stuffing from a comforter, then the next time to remove 3 socks!!!! Yes I said 3 socks!!!!
