Re: Traci, abandoned cat that I may have to take home....
Hi everybody. All tests were negative. All her pre surg. levels were fine too but she's not well enough for a dental or vaccines yet. De-parasiting either. I have liquid antibiotics for her, Rx Sience Diet ID wet food, and drops for her ears. My private vet also could not believe what a saint she is. She had a really good bath at the vets, nails clipped and feels much better. Her liver enzymes were up a little but they said it could be from the infection or the trash she has been eating (or not eating) in the park. She will have to be re-tested for the liver enzymes (I think it was enzymes?) and also retested for feline diseases. They said sometimes they can get a false negative and later test positive, you never know. But chances are she will be fine. I'm glad the first round was negative at any rate. She does have stomititis. This is the reason for all her gum lesions and excess saliva and foul odor. I'm really hoping we can clear this all up. Her ears are infected probably because of the infection in her body. Her blood test did show elevated levels white blood cells, or something like that, because of her oral infection. Is it the white blood cells that elevate when they have infection?
I hope she responds well to all the treatments and continues to test negative. I sure hope we can cure the stomititis and get her liver levels back to a normal level. Do all of these types of problems usually respond well to treatment? She's still quarantined of course. I have her in the guest room with the door shut and I also have the hall door closed. She's got two doors between her and the rest of the cats. They won't be allowed into the back part of the apartment until she is better. They don't even know she is here.
5 of my cats are getting their 3 month late vaccines tomorrow, Vest can't because he's being treated with antibiotics right now. He will get his vaccines as soon as he can. We have to be extra careful with him.
Funny thing, they found no fleas or parasites on her. She looks so much better all clean.

Re: Traci, abandoned cat that I may have to take home....
Find out how high the liver enzymes are....ask the vet if she felt kitty was dehydrated and might benefit from sub-q fluids. The antibiotics should help both the liver as well as the oral problem.

Re: Traci, abandoned cat that I may have to take home....
I will ask about the liver enzymes. I think next Monday she goes in to the vets again and if her infection is much better she will get another bath and I would like to do another blood analysis to test for communicable diseases, liver enzymes etc. I am anxious to be able to let her out of the guest room. My cats are not happy about being locked out of the back part of the apartment. I have a feeling it will be a few weeks before I will be able to though. I am also really nervous about getting my cats sick having her here so the sooner she can get a clean bill of health the better for me. It's pretty stressful for everybody. Also, if she is better she can get her dental on monday but I think all this is wishful thinking. She is better though, the vet comes by daily to check on her. There is less odor in her mouth and her gums are less red. She is acting better, eating and drinking well. She's not dehydrated. She was also on IV fluids for a day and a half while in the ER. This helped allot. She still salivates though. Not excessivly but some.
I am going to try and find some info for stomititis as I am unsure exactly what it is. I'll go check out the feline health section here to see what I can find out.

Found a link on stomatitis.

Do you think a culture should be taken to confirm she has this or it's an obvious? I am so worried she has some other health problem that lead to this. Maybe it was just living out in the wild that brought this all on.
I an anxious to see what treatment with DDS will recommend to me.

Re: Traci, abandoned cat that I may have to take home....
If your dental vet is experienced, he should be able to diagnose it with x-rays and by gauging the severity of peridontal disease and gums, etc.
As long as the FELV/FIV test negative, and she begins to show improvement with each day, chances are, it is the peridontal disease that is the worst of her problems.

Re: Traci, abandoned cat that I may have to take home....
Friday night, just checking in. She's steadily improving. Eating more and more each day, drinking water and the odor is getting less and less. She's even able to clean her face a little bit after she eats. No poop today but the vet said that's okay, it will come soon. If she does not poop by tomorrow I will call her. So far it's looking good that the DDS might be able to fix her up on Monday and she might be able to get another blood work up and bath. I really hope so. I'm anxious to let her out of that back room. The inside of her mouth even looks better, I can tell when I give her the syringe of liquid antibiotic. Her ears are looking better too from the drops. She's still a "Saint". I might name her Cleo because she's black. Saint Cleo. Or Santa Cleo for Cleopatra.

Re: Traci, abandoned cat that I may have to take home....
Santa Cleopatra vet check, Saturday:
The vet said she had some missing teeth. She must be around 8-10 years of age. The infection has gone down allot but not all the way. The odor is better. She has less pain. It will probably be another 1-2 weeks before the infection is gone and she can get a dental. She can't be exposed to the other cats until this stomitisis is cleared because it's viral. So it looks like another 1-2 weeks of quarantine. This is very difficult and I am anxious for it to end. Even if her second round of blood tests prove to be negative once again this mouth infection is still contagious until completely cleared. How long until after her oral infection is cleared and she's had her dental before she can be vaccinated and wormed?
She has a bath and second blood test scheduled for Monday and my cats are scheduled for round two of their 3 month late vaccines. All except Vest who is still on antibiotics.
She pooped today, a bit dry but at least she pooped.
Hopefully in 2 more weeks all will be clear and she can be introduced to the rest of the cats. They are getting rather bored only being able to live in half the apartment. I am just too scared to only have one door between them, the guest bedroom door. I feel it's safer to have the hall and bedroom door between them. Unfortunately this cuts the apartment in half though. Any thought on this? Am I being too paranoid? The cats miss the master bedroom and sleeping with us.
Thanks for all the care and support everybody!

Cleo had a bath today but we have to hold off on the CBC until she is off antibiotics.
