Need help introducing a new cat to my old cat

Post by tnttreens »

Hi there,

I have had a male cat (Buster) for almost 5 years now and he has always had the run of the house. Last Saturday I got a female cat (Whiskers) that was my cat from a previous relationship. He is about 5 years old and she is about 8 or so.

Anyhow, at first they hissed at each other and since then have been avoiding each other. Whiskers has been hiding in my bedroom (in the back part of the house), and Buster who used to come and hang out on my bed at night has been sleeping out in the front of the house (the living room). Both cats are outside cats, but I have been keeping Whiskers in as suggested until she get used to things.

I called the vet and they said that it takes time; however, I was wandering if anyone could give me some pointers on what I can do to keep them from hiding from each other. They do get close, but then Buster will turn away or Whiskers will just go and hide because there are plenty of spaces and rooms for her to go to.

Thank you in advance for your time!!!
