Why does my cat love junk food?

I wonder this only because of my 14-year-old tabby, Mollie. While he eats his catfood regularly, he has a passion for junk food, especially sweet foods. He eats animal and graham crackers, any sugary kids' cereal, and once he actually scooped a big chunk out of a pumpkin pie my mom baked for Thanksgiving a few years back XD

Last year, he broke into a box of sugar cookies and took a bite out of each one, and we had to throw them all away. That same week, he managed to open a box of donuts and also took a bite out of 8 of the 12, and we had to discard the eaten ones.

Once in a great while I spoil Mollie and give him bits of an animal cracker or what-not (NEVER chocolate!), but a lot of the time he gets into stuff on his own.

One other instance was one night after watching a movie, my mom left a huge bowl of popcorn out on the table - it had to be almost an entire bag. And when we woke up the next day the bowl was empty, save for the kernels that didn't pop. Mollie ate the whole bowl.

And he has gotten into other things like potato chips, trail mix, even croutons. He's not overly hungry - my mom only feeds him in the morning and at night, averaging about 1.5 - 2 cans a day, but every so often I give him a small spoonful to hold him off, or some sort of treat.

Now I know cats can have food fetishes...one of my aunt's cats actually likes stuffed olives O.o, but has anyone ever had experience with a cat that eats junk food?

they are like kids, if they can get at it they will eat it...its probably not harmfull unless they are getting far in excess of it or if they are diabetics...best thein..just like kids...keep it out of reach...why they do it,,,you gotta ask the cat---i think they just like it....

My cat Cheeser LOVED sweets. One of her favorite things was a blueberry coffeecake with icing that I used to make. As a tribute to her and her sweet tooth when she passed away we went to a pottery place and painted her an urn out of a sugar bowl.
