cat eating toilet paper?

My cat has started a new, strange behavior...twice this week I have caught him nibbling on the edges of the toilet paper on the roll. There are little teeth marks all around it! He doesn't seem to be ingestng a lot of it, just nibbling. Why would he be doing this?

Might he be playing with it? If we have the window open & the breeze catches the end of the roll, my cat likes to paw at it if it´s moving (she goes crazy with ANYTHING that moves!!!!) Like the Andrex puppy!

i kinda go alond with victoria...lots of cats go this and often run the roll out into another room...it is not Pica but probably just play time,if it s a problem keep the door closed but i doubt that it is harmfull

Consider youself lucky. I can't leave the bathroom door open unless I am in it. If I do, my cat Loki runs in and up on the toilet and withing 30 seconds the whole roll is unraveled.

Odin does the same thing, but with paper towels. so now I have to keep them on the fridge.

Since you say you've actually seen your cat nibbling on the toilet paper, could you try switching to another brand?

Or maybe put the roll somewhere where your cat can't get at it for a few weeks, or as long as it takes for him to forget about it? (He may remember it soon enough, though!)

A nuisance for you, of course, but it might be better than having him eat something indigestible....

Actually, he's not playing with it on the roll. he's nibbling on the extra roll sitting on the floor. I guess I will just put it up somewhere. I was just curious about this strange behavior!
