growth on back foot

Post by essey »

Buddy has a growth on his back foot. It reminds me of a boil or something but is oval in shape and is about the size of a kidney bean. It almost looks like it could pop but it only gets bigger. Can you tell me what it might be? Buddy is an over weight cat that I have tried to put on diet but have a hard time because I have another cat that is not over weight. I call buddy my big fat fur ball. (He is a beauty) I appreciate any help you can do. Thanks

Without seeing it, it's hard to say what it might be. Is he an indoor cat only? Did something get stuck in his paw and has now become infected? Is the area hot? What color is it? I'm assuming you can see it through his fur?

Your best bet is to get him looked at by a vet and while you are there discuss a proper diet for Buddy if you haven't already done so. It's best not to do the diet yourself and have the vet's guidance to ensure he is getting the proper nutrition with the caloric reduction. I understand it's hard with multiple cats to enforce a certain diet regimen. If you're not doing so already, you'll have to supervise their chow time. I had a problem with the adult cats here eating the kitten food and vice versa so had to space the bowls out and literally stand there as they ate. If the food wasn't eaten in 20 minutes, I'd take it away. This way they knew to eat what was in front of them right then and there and eventually the habit was formed.

Please explain what are tarsal pads. The growth is coming from the side of his pad of his foot. Buddy is a indoor cat only.

Please have your Vet check it out. Winnie may be a dog, but she had a lump on her toe several years ago. My Vet wanted to take it off right away....he said that it is much more complicated when (or, if) it gets bigger. Not an easy area to work on.
