Help for a broken toe?
Help for a broken toe?
Hi new here.....will do an actual introduction at some point but not 10min ago my kitten got his toe stuck in a chair and started flailing around. I managed to get him loose after much sacrifice to my hands. Unfortunately his toe is all bent and he is limping, and I am almost positive it is broken. The actual foot and wrist do seem tender though. What can I do for him? I remeber breaking my toe and the doctor just sending me away. Will a vet do much more?

Re: Help for a broken toe?
I'm not a vet but I looked this up in one of my cat care books that I trust. It looks as if you don't have to rush your kitten to the vet but you should have the toe Xrayed at your earliest convenience. The vet may want to splint it, or may not.
If he's able to bear weight on the leg and paw, it may not be a fracture, but it sounds as if it might be.

I suggest an ER vet visit immediately, you have no idea to what extent the injury has caused. If it is a fracture and he is allowed activity, this could worsen the fracture. He should be evaluated in other areas due to the nature of the flopping around during the struggle.

Thanks for your suggestions. I kept a close eye on him over the next hour and he stopped limping and resumed all normal kitten hyjinx. Today as well he seems totally fine so I assume it just looked a lot worse than it was.
