Outdoor cat damaging car

Post by juniper »

Hello...I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. There is an outdoor neighborhood cat who it is scratching my vehicle causing much damage. Neighbors are not doing anything to assist...do you have any suggestions as to how to stop the cat from damaging my property? Thanks...

Is it a stray, or belong to a neighbor? If you know it belongs to someone, have you tried talking to the owner?

If it is a stray, you could possibly see about borrowing a live animal trap from your local shelter and trying to catch the cat...then either adopt it permanently inside for your own or hope the shelter can find a good home for it...

Thanks for your reply. It actually is my neighbor's cat, but they are not attempting to do anything about it. I am stuck, as I don't want to think of it as a stray, but again, neighbors are doing nothing to help....

Well...depending on how good of friends you are...there is always the drastic option of gathering proof that it is their cat doing the damage (photos in action and so forth) and taking them to small claims court to repair damages done to the car...

MAybe taht would make them be more responsible owners... :?

Wow, thats one mighty strong cat !! Ive never heard of a cat doing that kind of damage. Have you seen this cat in action? I dont mean to 2nd guess you but is it possible that something else is causing the damage?

If it is the cat then this is a tricky situation here. If the owners arent interested in your car, their cat, or the damage being done to your car by their cat, I dont see legal action making them responible pet ownwers. This can only end badly for the cat, he's screwed either way. Plus a lawsuit among neighbors can really make life miserable for everyone involved.

It might be a bit of an inconveniance but could you park your car in a different location, or several dirfferent locations for a week or so? Once his routine is disrupted he may just stop on his own.

I know its not the best scenario for you but your insurance should cover it. Your stuck with the deductible & the hassal but at least you wont find yourself in the middle of a neighborhood feud.
