Diabetes/Cushing's Disease in Dogs

Post by ccunnin1@nycap.rr.com »

I am confused. Hopefully someone on the board can give me some information. Did you ever have a dog with diabetes as a result of Cushings Disease? My poor eight year old Yorkie was diagnosed two days ago with diabetes. We started giving him insulin immediately. Tuesday he goes to the vet for complete analysis to see which kind of Cushings he has. I have read alot on the internet and I realize it is very serious.

Are there any nutrients we can give him to help him? Have any of you had experience with the disease? It is all so depressing. Jack is our life and to see him looking so sad and quiet is just awful. Normally frisky and active, he is like another dog. The vet gave him an i.v. today as he was dehydrated from urinating so much. On top of it all he has an infection. We are currently giving him antibiotics.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Claudia

Claudia, you can do a net search on canine cushing's (aka hyperadrenocorticism), and check any number of the veterinary sites for more information. Please use caution when finding internet lists in your searches. Ideally, your vet is the only one who can treat and manage your dog based on his individual needs and how he responds. With proper medical management, your dog can lead a normal happy life, don't hesitate to discuss your questions and concerns with your vet.
