Now as some of you may know, Mr. Riley came to me as a kitten of about 4 months of age, abandoned by neighbors across the street who moved and just left him and two very tiny kittens behind. (I found a wonderful home for the two tiny tots). As usual, Mr. Riley came to my house with the full intent that he would be eventually rehomed as I needed another cat like a hole in the head. For a youngster, he was sooooo lovable and did seem rather calm (that should have been my first warning sign)! I had already acquired Big Boy Bagheera several months prior as a wee kitten when he wandered into the warehouse where I was working during a bad storm, and was nearly smooshed by a forklift (another firm resolve to find a good home for that boy too). They were close in age, and so the kitten antics began. I had high hopes that the 'kitten' stage would eventually disappear with age and maturity. (Delusional thinking, apparently).
Now the boys are around 2 years of age. Mr. Riley's nickname of Sir Humpalot was dumped by the wayside after his snip and clip job around 8 months of age (Bagheera was VERY relieved after that procedure). It is now 'The Devil Incarnate'! I always anticipate the late evening Indy 500, where those two decide upstairs is a good place to race, and it sounds like a herd of elephants as they launch off the waterbed in hot pursuit of each other.
However, Mr. Riley is determined to exhibit his ingenious and naughty perpetual adolescent side by knocking the top off of my antique sugar canister at least 3 times a day. Now that in itself really isn't that bad, but you must understand, my canisters sit right by the towel underneath the dish drainer/mat, and not only does he knock the top off, he digs furiously in the sugar until there is sweet carnage all over the towel and clean dishes! Then he proudly struts off as if to say 'My job is done'.
Just look at that face. Does it not say 'I AM the spawn of the devil'!?
