What would you have done?

Post by Marty »

Not terribly important...but Winnie was in for a UA...all was well. Checking out, I hooked her up and paid and gave her a treat from the treat box. There was a beautiful young boxer (maybe a year old) in the waiting room, and I noticed her flinch when I gave Winnie her treat. Her owner kept her in check very well....maybe I shouldn't have given Winnie a treat? Just wondering....

I would have done just what you did by giving the treat. My question is why the other dog acted that way. Why did she flinch when your dog got a treat? I could see Mr. Blue straining on the leash wanting to go get one too, and maybe drooling on the office floor, but not flinching. I wonder how she's been trained.

You weren't wrong to give Winnie a treat. That's what they're there for! :) I'm wondering if maybe the boxer flinching at that time was coincidence. Another thought is that the boxer is on the shy/insecure side, and that is why she flinched. Speaking from experience, if that's the case, it might not have as much to do with the way she was trained.
