cat licking ear?

Post by Omego2K »

Hi, my cat had this weird behavior, he seems to like licking the inside of my ear, and I mean he really likes it, he licks it like it's candy, I found out that it's the taste of the ear wax he's after, I just wanna know if it's normal for cats.

It's probably more a form of affection he is showing you than anything. Relax, he likes you

I aint bothered by it, but he honestly is attracted to the taste of ear wax. For example if I put my hand near him, he ussually wont do anything but maybe push his jaw against it so I would pet it, (nasty disclaimer) but if I rub the inside of my with the hand he licks it clean. He never even stops licking my ear by himself, once he did it when I was sleeping, I woke up with him licking it and I got a rash from it. I dunno what's up with that is all :\

As for your hands, cats will lick them because of the salt in your skin. Affection from cats comes in many forms, and your ears are just one way he is expressing that....if you were his birth sibling, he'd be licking (cleaning) your ears then too. Maybe he does like the ear wax, but either way, he's showing you his trust and affection.

As for your rash, that probably occured as a result to the barbs on his tongue, which are rough and on sensitive ear tissue, would create a rash.
