I need to find out whats wrong with my cat!
Over the last few days I have noticed that one of my cats has become cover with scabs over most of hist body. Both of my ctas are strictly indoor cats. I work away and juts arrived home. I was wondering if anyone knows what could possibly cause this. I really worried about my little guy. I am going to take him to the vet really soon.

Even though they are strictly indoor cats, fleas are always a possibility. Check through his fur for any signs of fleas or flea dirt...mostly along the underside of his belly around the groin area...or in his "armpits"...
If you see fleas or signs of them, do not use over the counter flea products for cats...many can cause more harm to the cat than good...the best thing is Frontline for cats from your vet...
Allergies can cause irritations as well...
Is there any tension between the two cats? Are they both male? Neutered? Is there a female in heat nearby? Any changes in the household recently that would cause stress?
But to be sure, a vet would have to look at him and find the cause...please get him to one ASAP...If your vet cannot figure it out, I hear there is a great vet hosiptal over in PEI...
Where in NS do you live? My husband is from New Glasgow

Re: I need to find out whats wrong with my cat!
My 12 year old (spayed female) had this problem last winter. I worried about it, and checked that the scabs did bleed if I removed them. I waited and the problem stopped all on its own, and has not returned. My cats are never allowed outside. I never changed food or anything. It is a mystery, but now not a problem. She has long hair, and mats easily when she sheds.

My cat gets something similar to what you described usually scabbing up around her neck and/or the backs of her legs. I took her to the vet and was told she probably is allergic to something. They gave her a steroid shot and it cleared up quickly. This has happened a few times over the past 3 years. We still don't know what she's allergic to, but a shot always clears it right up!
