dog surgery

Post by lmmd »

A neighbour has a small poodle type dog aged 11 years. There was a large growth removed from the mouth last year. There is now a large, seeping growth on the anus. Some results from the blood work indicate pancreatic problems. The owner thought that they should go ahead with the anal area growth removal, but the vets office says no - but will do some more blood work. Any opinions or ideas?

would be good to wait till blood etc is run, ssume the anal problem is a perianal adenoma which, if not real large, might not be a problem....but with any blood dyscrasia or abnortmalities i would suspect best to use caution....

I agree with davet. The pancreatic problem could be chronic prancreatitis that can be managed with diet and/or meds, but it could also be related to an infection, liver problems, or cancer. It's best to know why the pancreatic enzymes are elevated before proceding with surgery. If the liver is involved, anesthesia will be extremely dangerous.

Good luck to your friend - hope all turns out well.
