Very Young Kitten with Horrible Fleas!

Post by FleaHaterForLife »

Hello, i have a kitten about 6 1/2 weeks old that has many fleas. It is terrible for her and i know it causes her a lot of distraction from her normal routine since she is constantly scratching, not to mention, the fleas get on me as well! Is there any natural products at home that i can use to get rid of them that is safe for her young age? I've tried using a flea comb, but she wriggles, cries, and it is Very difficult, and there are too many anyway. I've tried using a flea spray, but the fleas come back after a few hours. Please help!! thanks! :(

check the environement or the immediate area...change everything, andspray everything but keep what you have sprayed away from the kittte because if they are coming back, they arn;t hatching, they are living close by

A bath will help, just use a tiny bit and I mean tiny bit of Dawn dishwashing detergent. Just hold out your finger, squeeze som Dawn on your finger and dunk it in the water, that should be plenty. Your vet will have special spot on flea repellent just for kittens. Your biggest danger will be anemia- you can check to see if kitty is anemic, by taking your finger, and pressing it quickly on her gums. The gums should pale when touched and pink up quickly, if there is no color change, or it doesn't pink up quickly please take your kitten to the vet.

If you don't want to bathe the kitten yourself, or are a little afraid of bathing a small kitten, take it to a groomer. They know how to handle a kitten in a bath.

You definitely have to treat the area around where the kitty sleeps and spends most of its time like Davet said. Those fleas are hard to get rid of and if you're not careful, they'll just keep on coming back over and over.... Good luck!

And I would like to reflect on your first question. There is NO natural remedy product for fleas, natural products are a waste of money and time. Also, what you may 'assume' is natural, could very well be toxic to your kitten. Never, ever use natural products for flea or tick control, and never use over-the-counter products, they are ineffective, and often dangerous, toxic.

As MA mentioned, your vet can examine your kitten, and prescribe a tiny amount of safe flea medication based on her weight. I'd recommend getting her to your vet immediately to ensure that she is not anemic from this flea infestation. Your vet can also concur on treating the environment as others here have mentioned.
