Found a boxer that is under weight-

Post by sue »

We picked up a boxer off the road coming back from Atlanta friday. She is underweight, ribs and hip bones showing, but otherwise looks very healthy and clean. I posted fliers and will run an ad in the paper on Tuesday. In the mean time, how much or little should I be feeding her, I don't want her to get sick. My dogs eat Nutro Max and I have been feeding her in the morning about two cups with canned mixed and then I leave out about two cups of dry and she eats that in the evening whenever she wants to. She wolfs down the morning feeding but then picks at the dry later in the evenng, eventually eating it up. I had to drag her out of the house on a leash to potty this morning. On the flip side, she is extremely friendly and lovable and my bassetts get along with her just great. She loves my kids and rode home in the van on my daughters lap licking her the whole way.

what ever you feed her, i would do it several times a day, ie every few hours for the first few days so food doesn"t hit the stomach all at one...would do this for mayber two or three days.. also be sure your other dogs are current on their vacs cause you have no idea whether this new dog is sick or exposed or not..lyou did good in picking up this pup before it got hit

My Basset Rescue... ....suggests feeding puppy food to a malnourished dog. You might try that for a week or so, until it starts to look better. You must have some unusual Bassets to ignore a bowl of food just sitting there! My Winnie would demolish hers and the Boxer's.....
