Side effect to giardia and/or roundworms??

Post by salemgirl1999 »

I have a question regarding my cat, Sydney. Since June she has a bouts of diarrhea. She tested positive and has been treated for giardia and round worms. For the past week and a half she has had normal stools so hopefully they are cleared up. However, for the past week she has started sneezing. No mucus is coming out so I haven't taken her to the vet. A few moments ago I was reading the paper and she was standing on it. I tried to scoot her over by pushing on her hind legs. When I did some liquid shot out of her rectum area. It was the consistancy of diarrhea and smelled horrible. It was only a few drops and she automatically began washing herself. I have looked in my cat health books to see what this is but I can't find anything. When her diarrhea was at it's worst, this happened before but I assumed it was due to the giardia and worms. Her appetite is normal (and has been the entire time she has been sick) and she plays all of the time. I'm not sure if I should take her to the vet or wait and see if it improves/worsens. Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like anal glands, they may need to be expressed. Make an appointment with your vet, and at that time, discuss with him the diet you're feeding Sydney in the event it may need to be changed.

The vet gave me some food that is high in fiber (k/d Hill's Presciption Diet)and also suggested yogurt to neutralize the bacteria. I'll get an appt tomorrow. Thank you for your advice!
