Transporting dogs
Transporting dogs
I have been asked to be part of a relay to transport 2 Bassets, and am wondering how you do a safe trip. I have one crate, and am thinking about getting another for this trip (not sure I want 2 strange sweeties on my lap on the interstate). Another crate won't hurt to have around, anyways.

How wonderful to do that
I would probably get another crate, to be on the safe side for all of your sakes...remember to seatbelt the crates into the car too!!
Have a safe and fun trip!! I have never been a part of a relay myself, but have read about others who have done them...

Well, I got them where they needed to go today. I did end up buying another crate....a more portable one...figured I will probably need it again anyway. The trip went well, and they both were the sweetest hounds. I will never understand how people can "lose" dogs and not look for them, or whatever else may have happened. Gr-r-r!

I wonder that too. It amazes me when a person turns in a 12 year old dog, which they raised from a pup and says something like. "We bought a new home or redecorated and she may tear things up or doesn't go with the new decor."Marty wrote:Well, I got them where they needed to go today. How awful is that?! I read this to my 14 year old son, and he said you should say to those people, "Sir, you don't belong in this world...BAM!!"It amazes me when a person turns in a 12 year old dog, which they raised from a pup and says something like. I cannot believe how people can be so cruel and heartless

I am glad the trip went well and they are safe in a new loving home...
It is a wonderful thing that you did...if I ever get the chance to take part in something like that...I would gladly do so!

Hey, it is very easy to get involved with helping animals! GA Basset Rescue has over 125 Bassets in foster care, and that is just GA and just Bassets! Our town alone has 2 rescues who pull adoptable pets from the shelter. I submitted an application online to become a foster parent (Winnie and the computer came at about the same time, and I became aware of the existence of Rescues), had a home visit to be sure my home was appropriate, and was approved. Funny thing....I was sitting in a grassy area of the mall, giving the dogs a break, when a young man pulled up and asked me if I knew where he could get a Basset puppy. I told him that I had no idea, but he could go to the Rescue site and view some adoptable Bassets. Seem his grandparents really wanted one, and he also was thinking about it. That about made my day!!!!
