a mother cat and her babies

Post by Tyler's Mom »

Please pray for a mother cat and 5 kittens who are being kept by a homeless person in a cat carrier. We live in Seattle, and its raining all the time. The holes in the carrier let in all the water and then cant escape it. They also cant get out to go to the bathroom, and are being fed only a tiny amount of sardines. They are soaking wet, and are covered in feces. Please also pray for the man, and also that he comes to realize that he cannot properly care for these cats.

Oh My Lord...these babies and momma definitely need to be taken away from him...can you call the SPCA or other organiztaion in your area with officers who can go and legally remove these cats from this man, and also get him the help he needs?!

Someone needs to do something...if you can find any organiztion in our area...or even the local police, to intervene on the cats behalf...they need someone to rescue them NOW....There are cruelty to animal laws, and I would think this would fit that category, even though I am sure the person means well, they need help...

Please .... I beg of you....make the call!!

Edit added: I tried to call and finally actually got to talk to a person, and she said they would not do anything unless YOU make the call and let them know WHERE this person is at...PLEASE...you NEED TO CALL THE SEATTLE POLICE DEPARTMENT OR ANIMAL SHELTER...NOW...
We can all pray, but only YOU can act...

Prayers in the meantime that they survive...

I did send an e-mail to Ann Graves, enforcement supervisor at The Animal Shelter....this was her reply:
Hi Tambrey,
This is certainly a disturbing situation. Unfortunately Seattle is very large with a large homeless population so without a location of this person there is simply no way to respond. If the person who wrote the message can get us a location to look for them we would, of course, do so. The police have frequent contact with homeless people and are very good about contacting us if they see an animal in need of our help. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions or concerns.

Sooooo.....give her a call, let her know where you work and maybe police in that area can be on the lookout to help the cats and this man who obviously needs some assitance as well...
Best of luck...

Thanks so much Tambrey. I have been working on it, but apparently, where I work is right outside the city limits, so there are different people I have to contact instead. It's my day off today, but I have the other woman at work keeping and eye out for him, and she will call me. I just hope he returns soon. I think I will call the police next time because I think they might have a faster response time, so maybe to catch him before he leaves again.

Hi...I just hope that something can be done for the cats and the man...seems they are all in a tough situation and need a better life...Maybe if you even call Ann and let her know where you work at...so at least they know a general vicinity and the local police can be on the lookout...

Keep us posted on what happens...Thanks...

I've talked to the police, and they said they could come out, but it wouldnt do any good because they would just call animal control to deal with it, and they couldnt detain him for animal control to come in time.
Animal services say they may give a warning to the man, but that if the situation is as dire as I say, and they come out and see it, then they would most likely take the cats. The only problem is now to get the guy to stay there long enough. I have also called a couple places that would be able to help the guy out, if that is what he wants, and when the cat situation is taken care of (I hope), I will give him the info to also help himself. I will let you know if anything new happens.

It is good that you are doing so much to try to help them all...I hope he comes around again, stays long enough and that all can get help...

We have not had too many homeless wanderers come through the Midwest here lately, at least not around where I live, but in the past, when my son and I have driven by someone, especially someone with a pet, we will stop at WalMart and I will get a backpack and fill it with a jar of peanut butter, crackers, a pacakge of cookies, some fruit cups and pudding cups, pop top cans of tuna and other meats, a few fresh fruits liike bananas and oranges and apples...things that will keep, are half way nutritious and easy to open and eat...and a small bag of dog food and a water dish, and a bottle or two of water, a box of plastic utensils and a small package of paper plates and napkins, and one gallon ziplock freezer bags to keep things in once they are opened...not too much that the wandering person could not add it to whatever they were already carrying...They are usually very grateful for what we give them...it cost me around $15 or so, but sure makes me feel better!

Prayers for continued success on getting everyone taken care of there!!
