Bad Advice! Please Read!

Post by shalimar775 »

I made a post last week asking about garlic therapy for cats which I was told was better than pesticides. I was giving my 2 cats 750 mg. tablets of garlic for 3 weeks. All of a sudden 1 of my cats became sick--not eating, gagging, vomiting. I brought him in to my Vet and they did a blood work-up. Turns out he had pancreatitus(sp). Doc says it usually comes from a change of diet and that the garlic may have been a cause. Panceatitus can be a life-threatening ailment and he could have died had I not gotten him there as soon as I did. He spent 2 nights on an I.V. and antibiotics. Thank the Lord he's doing OK now. Beware of home remedies! When in doubt--bring your beloved pet to the Vet! He is now on Advantage and the fleas seem to be subsiding. Thank you for a wonderful Pet site!

hi, Sorry to hear your Cat got sick. But I do agree.. ANY home remedie or new diet should be checked out with a Vet first. I also think any new alterations in diet should be a SLOW introduction. Maybe the dose given was too high for a starting them on it. Need to get use to it slowly I would guess. BUT I am glad they are ok now. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply Jennifer. I have leared the hard way that you MUST bring your beloved pet to the VET! They know best. My Max is doing well. I even leared how to give him his pills and I thought I could never do that. My Vet showed me how and it was so easy! Thanks for your kind thoughts! J. :D
