Hello all!
I have been reading about new cat intros and also sneezing kitties and learning a lot here. I have a nearly one year old kitty named Scuttle. She is a one-person cat pretty much, calico and quite tempermental although can be very sweet. She sleeps with me and is very affectionate with me and my two daughters. She is learning to be social to newcomers. We just adopted a lovely black and white little boy kitty we named Sam. He is six months old since we didn't want to bring home a tiny baby around Scuttle. At any rate, Sam is confined to my youngest daughters bedroom, a room Scuttle rarely uses. We let Sam out a few times when Scuttle is confined to my bedroom to mingle scents, etc. Then yesterday we let both cats wander around the house together. Scuttle hissed but basically they are ignoring each other which is fine with me.
The other thing is that little Sammy was just neutered. That part is okay, but he started sneezing shortly after we brought him home. The sneezing is getting more "wet" and now he is whistling when he breathes. I am really thinking he needs to see the vet this afternoon. He seems a bit lethargic to me, but we don't know him all that well either. We've only had him a week and he's just a laid back kind of kitty I think?? He's eating VERY well . . gobbling up food (he came from a shelter), he poops and pees just fine, but he isn't playing like you would think a 6 month old kitty would play. Anyway, the sneezing, from what I read, could be allergies or a virus/cold . . . so . . calling the vet shortly. Will keep you posted on Sam/Scuttles and all . .. Nice to be here!!

Re: new cat intro
Hi and welcome to the board.
Congrats on your new adoption! They'll be sleeping whisker to whisker in no time.
It is very possible that Sam picked up and came home with something from the shelter. Did the shelter give you a vaccination/worming schedule on Sam? If not, please obtain one so you're vet will know where to start with Sam.
A 6 month old kitten should be bouncing off the walls ... literally! I have four 4-month old kittens and if there were some kind of kitten circus olympics they'd be running the show! Sam should be bouncy and exhibiting all sorts of playful behavior. No doubt his cold is slowing him down.
Please let us know when the vet says and be sure to post pictures when you can over in Debbie's Cloud.

Re: new cat intro
Yes! We did get a vaccine schedule thankfully from the old owners and he is up to date on all according to them. The vet checked for worms when he was neutered, he had a good checkup which makes me think whatever he has, he just got (or its allergies?) I think they were moving to a tiny apartment and simply could not keep all their animals. Very sad. But Sam was really sturdy looking and his fur was shiny. I doubt he was at the shelter very long which is good news! . . . Actually the thing that attracted us was he stuck his paws out and tried to grab us as we passed his cage . .so . .yeah . he WAS playful! and now he's not . . . so I think he's sick and now that I really think about it allergies wouldn't make a kitty so lethargic would they? . . Called the vet and they have an appointment at 3 p.m. today! So we will post with the news on that. Hopefully we are catching it in early stages . .whatever IT is . . . and that Scuttle won't catch it too.

Re: new cat intro
Sam has an infected eye and a cold and was prescribed an eye ointment/antibiotic and an oral antibiotic to prevent a secondary infection I assume. He wasn't running a fever so that's good!

Poor baby, I hope he heals quickly and is back to his kitten-self soon! Glad you went to the vet and are on top of this. And yes, good news Sam has no fever!
