Yesterday I picked up a dog at the Parish courthouse in Edgard. He is as friendly as can be, but is being deemed unadoptible so in five days he will be put down. I don't think I can do it. Here are his pictures and maybe you can guess what is hard about this one....
In this picture you can see the scars that make him be unadoptible.
He was evidently attacked by another dog. In spite of his injuries, which appear fully healed, he is not dog aggressive. As for people, he came right to me when I got down and called him. Wagging his tail. All this poor dog wants is to be loved.
He could be a twin for mhy Bernie. ......
I don't think I can do this one...

ooohhhh....the poor thing...is there no way you can take him anyways? I know, you have quite a few dogs already...but one more?!
I cannot imagine any animal being put down for thier looks or past history, unless that history involves the dog being abusive or unpredictible, but even so, it is very difficult to do...
I hope that within 5 days, someone or something will happen that works out favourably for the dog...maybe an article in the paper, or a news story about what might have happened to him...a poster dog for what happens to strays when they are left to fend for themselves?
As long as he is not aggressive, I do not see why they are so quick to want to put him down...
Prayers that some favourable solution is found quickly...

Parish ordinance..
"To combat dog fighting, no dog of the following breeds may be adopted to the general public: Pit Bull (Also known as American Stratfordshire Terrier), Chow Chow or Rottweiller. Additionally any dogs that have scars indicating that they have been in fights or used in fighting may be adopted to the general public. Dogs of these breeds, or that may have been used in fighing, may be given to registered rescue agencies."

And I assume there are no registered rescue agencies in your area?
I have been to another dog forum, and have read threads where they did rescues across state lines...across country...with people traveling 2-3 hours or more one way with the animal, then someone else picking it up to travel on, until eventually it reaches the rescue destination site for rehab and so forth...

If you have never been to about.com, then you need to register...then within the messages, scroll to the rescue section and see what happens?!
It is too bad that it seems nothing can be done for the poor thing...

We have lots of registered rescues in our area. Most only handle pure breds, but Vet Adoptions, the Pontchartrain Humane Society and St. Francis take all breeds. Unfortunately they are full with the 'Summer Rush."

oohhh....seems like this guy is just out of luck...Hopefully St. Francis will take care of him in his on his next journey...I still pray something happens even at the last minute for him...
