Does your dog help with any chores around the house?

Post by Marty »

This question was fun on another board, so I thought I would try it here!
I'll start...
Winnie is wonderful at making sure the floor is clean....no crumbs allowed! She cleans dishes, too!

Biscotti is our alarm system (with help from Java). Intruders would surely think twice about entering our space! And that includes squirrels trying to get at the bird feeders!

Java helps with the alarms, as well as making sure Mom is not cold or lonely at night

Louie helps by cleaning doggie ears, so Mom doesn't have to bend over! And he helps us with our baths, as well! He also makes sure the pillows are arranged just right!

And all 4 help Dad with edging the grass! What good doggies!

Both Allie and Angel help dry me off after a shower.

Foxy is our alarm system, although she is prone to false alarms. She also knows when a storm is coming - she gets very hyper and fearful. (I think she can hear the thunder before we can). Angel, unfortunately, knows when a cold front is on the way in the winter. You can see the pain in her face.

Allie alerts on the presence of unseen things - she lets us know when the ghosts are around.

Angel keeps the yard free of all those nasty birds and other critters.

Allie is my alarm clock and also reminds me (noisily and boisterously) so I don't forget to feed the dogs. she also lets me know, in no uncertain terms, when it is time to go to bed.

All three are excellent at cleaning up food that falls on the floor and at cleaning dishes and they all make sure I am never lonely, especially in the bathroom.

Allie announces to the world that it is time to wake up every morning, and she won't stop announcing no matter how hard you try. It is her job and she does it well.

Mickey, rest his soul, always made sure I had a hug when I was hurting. He gave Allie a big hug when she came home after being spayed. He made sure all of his little sisters were well taken care of and protected.

Such VERY good doggies!

Thanks - I enjoyed your descriptions of your furkids too. My crew definitely like to keep busy. I forgot one thing - Foxy also helps rearrange the silk flowers. She likes to pull them out of the topiary so I can rearrange them to her liking. I apparently still don't have it quite right!

Mr. Dawg is our alarm for sugar levels in Mom's blood. He lets us know when they are too low.

Prince is the guardian of the dishes and doesn't allow anyone to steal kibbles when I am filling the dog dishes.

Ivory and Pea Pod are our alarms for intruders and cobblies. Ginger keeps watch out the back window. Once the Alarm is given; Prissy, Apache, Prince, Ginger and Ebony take on the first line of defense of the house. Mr. Dawg, Bernie, Sweet Pea, Inky and Dottie make up a second line of defense in case anything gets past the first group.

Sweet Pea helps vacuum the rugs.

Ivory, Bernie, Apache, Mr Dawg, Prince, Ginger, Coco and Prissy make sure mom and dad don't get cold in bed at night.

LOL, great thread.

First, my Chi, Chewie inspects all stuffed toys for operational squeakers.

Smokey (my other Chi), makes sure that anyone comeing to the door gets nipped in the ankles. LOL

Spud makes sure that all crumbs are removed from every area of the kitchen.

Haley is the morning alarm clock and tells me when it's time for everyone to go pee and have cookies.

Tuffy is the official "greeter" and barks her head off at everyone who comes in the house for at least 10 minutes or however long she deems appropriate at the time (or until she gets yelled at to shut up!)

This is Mini, she's the official toilet inspector.

Fun topic and love the pic... Honey does chores like your pups...like dishwasher, alarm..but her biggies are:
- my activities director (I MUST play with her!)
- and defender against the vacuum beast...she does keep trying to kill the thing 8)

This is a great topic! In addition to cleaning up any crumbs on our floors (seems like this is a job all dogs take on), Mr. Blue does a very important job for us: he washes our carpet by rolling all over it after a bath! He is also the main protector of the house; he chases away any squirrel in the yard, barks at the mailman, and tries to kill any evil mole in the yard. He is also the main trash inspector in the neighborhood: everything must be sniffed on trash day (but NOT sampled; I'm too mean to allow that!) He's also really good at reading my moods - he seems to always know when I've had a bad day and need extra hound love!
