Harry is home now and stable. However, his prognosis is guarded. The vet pointed out that Harry has been through a lot, especially for a kitten of three months of age. He has had emergency abdominal surgery, has had his stomach pumped, and has been poked and prodded. She said that Harry is very courageous, but that his stomach could swell again since they could not find the cause. She warned that if he was constantly having to undergo invasive procedures, I should consider his comfort first and let him go. Also, she is worried that he will develop other problems due to his Manx Syndrome, like ataxia and megacolon (which he is beginning already).
Right now, though, I am giving Harry his meds and taking it one day at a time. He is his usual comical self and purrs almost constantly. He loves to be held and looks at me with those big green eyes filled with life and love. I am watching him vigilantly, but I am letting him be a kitten: playing with his other kitten "brothers" and "sisters."
Thank you to all who prayed/sent positive thoughts to Harry. I truly believe that that is what got him through this crisis. Please continue to keep Harry in your prayers/thoughts so that he grows up to be strong and healthy.
I am grateful to all of you for your support through this heart-wrenching time.
Update on Harry
Re: Update on Harry
I am so happy that Harry is home and doing well.
He is showing that he is comfortable or he wouldn't be playing and purring.
Keep doing what you are doing for Harry. He will be fine!
Give him a hug and kiss from all of us.

Re: Update on Harry
My prayers and healing thoughts continue for Harry....please do ask your vet to consult with specialists for you...I would hate to think he isn't doing that for you....Please ask him to consult with one or more on your behalf.

Re: Update on Harry
At the University Animal Hospital, all of the specialists (Internal Medicine, Surgical, Neurological) were consulted.
Sadly, I am on my way back to my private vet (who has been in steady consultation with the specialists from the Hospital) because Harry's anus is prolapsed (1 inch) and he is straining to go to the bathroom.

Re: Update on Harry
Lisa, don't give up. I wasn't referring to strictly the university you are going to......while I'm sure they are doing what they can, they should be able to consult other specialists in internal medicine for this particular condition. Please find out about that if you can.
