neutered cat spraying

Post by jenjen »

HI
I need help...My four year old neutered male cat is just recently started spraying in the house. We thought it might be the other cats that are out side that have been "visiting" lately....but we've scared them away now and our cat is still spraying in the house like on the furnace screen and on plants and dressers. We got him neutered at the regular 6 months but now all of a sudden he starts to spray. I was wondering if there is any thing we can do about it...like something to give the cat or spray in the house....anything....any advice is much appreciated.
THanks
Jennifer

The most important thing to do right now is get him seen by your vet to rule out potential urinary tract infection, which can also be caused by stress. It may not have been the outside cats at all, but may have been brewing unbeknownst to you and is just now surfacing.

Don't wait on this, you need to have peace of mind. Get him seen by your vet, get a complete urinalysis done to rule out UTI or possible obstruction (obstructions can be fatal in a matter of hours)

Ditto what Traci said...once you have ruled out that we can certainly talk about behavior modification...good luck...keep us posted

the neighborhood that is overwehlim his senses...if infection is ruled out, your vet might sufggest the use of some female typoe hormones to over ride the situation....but get the check up first.

don't know what you can do to fix the issue but just wanted to let you know that we have an 18yr old male cat that was fixed as a kitten. To this day he will still spray when he gets stressed out about ANYTHING.

Good luck!
