A stray has adopted ME!!!
A stray has adopted ME!!!
I was coming home from Walmart around 9:30pm the other night and was confronted by a moving object on my sidewalk. I thought it was a skunk for all of 5 seconds....then the "skunk" left out a loud, pitiful meow. The poor thing kept meowing at me but wouldn't come to me... so I went inside and put some cat food in a dish and took it out to this kitten. She ate and ate...poor thing was starving!!!! The second I touched her she started purring and rubbing up against me. I coaxed her onto my back deck far away from the road...and there she has been ever since!!!
She is most definitely a girl, probably about 3-4 months old. She is a long hair all-black furbaby with streaks of red in her fur. Gorgeous, with the sweetest disposition. She is missing some hair around her neck, base of tail, and back of her legs. She is very affectionate and meows at the door for someone to pet her. Chauncey and Chessa don't seem overly concerned about her being out there, which has led me to believe I should adopt her. I've been very careful about washing my hands after petting her with antibacterial soap before I touch my other two.
Okay, here's my question, finally...would it be okay for me to put the stray in my basement (where Chauncey and Chessa never go) until I can get her tested and treated? Chauncey and Chessa both have all their shots, but I don't want to put them at any risk. As long as I keep them separated until I know the stray is healthy, would that be okay? Please let me know!!!
Thank you soooooo much!!!

Re: A stray has adopted ME!!!
Hi Jodi,
Well aren't you lucky! I brought Guinevere and her 4 kittens into my house (2nd floor apartment) before they started shots, etc. While the apartment is downstairs and my Mom's, we are all in one house. Our resident cats do not have free roam so as long as Chauncey and Chessa don't go into the basement either, I don't see why you couldn't bring the little one inside. Best to get her indoors and off the street anyway as soon as possible.
Good luck!
Cleo

Re: A stray has adopted ME!!!
Aww that's so great a cat has chosen you as it's owner ^-^ My cat Mollie was like that about 15 years ago - on my 3rd birthday he darted into my grandma's house while the door was open and my grandma said "God sent him" and I've had him ever since.
But yeah back to your topic...well I think I will concur with previous posters - keep your new kitty sepatare from Chauncey and Chessa. Yes shots are a good thing but that doesn't mean the illness they supposedly prevent still can't infect their bodies. Just to be on the safe side.
P.S. Have you named her yet?
.................
LinZ - had no problem keeping Mollie and a younger male Sassie together because both were street cats with no shots X)

Re: A stray has adopted ME!!!
The new kitty is doing just fine. I can't get her into the vet until next week, so for now she is living in the basement, far away from Chauncey and Chessa. In honor of my Ch- name theme, I am calling her Chairis. She is soooooo sweet!!!! I had to give her a bath, and the poor little thing was absolutely infested with fleas. But after the bath, she let me comb her, and I got even more fleas off of her. I just combed her again now and did not see one flea. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we fixed that problem!!!
Also, she purred the entire time I bathed and combed her. I've never seen a cat do that before!!! I'm just hoping she checks out okay at the vets....I'll keep everyone posted!!!
Thanks for the replies!
