Da Bird

Post by FromBeyond138 »

This is the best & the worst cat toy of all time.

Its basically a fiberglass rod with a cluster of feathers attached with a nylon cord and actual fishing lure hardware.

When we did use it, we used it very cautiously. Our cats would go crazy at the sight of it, they loved it. But we stopped because we were afraid of an accident.

But in the hands of a child or someone who doesnt care, or doesnt know better, this thing could be outright dangerous. And for that reason I would like to see it banned. Has anyone ever been succesful in seeing a potentially dangerous cat toy removed from the market?

If a cat has the metal hardware it its mouth, or the nylon cord wrapped around a tooth or tounge & the rod is given a yank (as a child might), it could cause damage. Maybe Im overprotective but it does scare me.

I think most manufacturers are required to put warning labels on their products for such potential incidents....whatever occurs after purchase is ultimately up to the consumer who uses it.

But, if you feel it is a specific danger to your cats or children, you should contact the manufacturer and voice your concern. If the product doesn't have a warning and precautionary label on it, then ideally, the manufacturer should do something about it....either repackage and include new warning labels or recall the product due to safety concerns.

we had a plastic "fishing rod" with a furry mouse at the end...but the first day, Roo broke it...he grabbed it and ran and broke the rod in two...we did not bother to replace it...

Our cats fave toy is $1.97 at Walmart...it has a wire fastener that we attach to the archway between our living and dining rooms (it can be put in doorways or anyplace where the attachment can get a grip)...the furry mouse hangs down from an elastic cord...they grab it and will run with it into the kitchen, then the cord gets as far as it will go, and it springs back to dangle above the floor again...we have gone through alot of these, but for 2 bucks, it is well worth it!!...Only thing is again, we had Roo grab it and roll one evening, and he got himself tangled to the point that it took 2 of us to get it off of him...so we only let them play with it when we are within sight or sound of them!!
