Skeptic - question on Mr. Dawg

Post by k9Karen »

Why does he need the MRI? Is it related to the recurrent fungal infections in his nose?

He is experiencing some neurological dysfunction and has started having siezures. After several tests including regular X-Rays, the vet thinks that his problem is either a brain tumor or that the fungus has infected the brain. Either way we are in trouble as I cannot aford either the diagnostic tests to determine his problem or the treatments. The fungal treatment requires 4 months on a very expensive fungicide ($1000 per month) whereas the tumor will cost about $1000 to remove and more addtional treatment if it is found malignent.

OMG - I thought your your luck was improving. You and Cheryl really have had it rough the past several months. Did they culture the fungus and determine which species it was?

I'm so sorry that this has happened, but I do understand the problem with the cost. It is so hard to have to deal with the high cost of vet care. I've been fairly lucky compared to you - Mickey's foot tumor that the vet thought might be mast cell turned out to be something much less severe, and Angel's possible bladder tumors turned out to be something related to inflammation from the recurrent infections, not a cancer. I honestly can't say what I would have done if either of these problems had turned out to need expensive additional treatment.

Have you tried to see if you can get the medication cheaper? Try contacting the manufacturer and see if there is something they can do. After all you've done for so many animals, it seems like someone should by able to help you. Can the shelter where you work (actually, I guess you volunteer) get it at cost for you? Unfortunately, I don't know any drug reps - if I did, I'd sure go to bat for you and Mr. Dawg. Do you know any pharmacists or MD's that might know whom to call? I know I'm fishing here, but I feel like there ought to be a way.

Wishing you, Cheryl, and Mr. Dawg all the best.

I'm glad to hear it. Hope it's successful. I saw the picture of Mr. Dawg that you posted yesterday - you're right, he does look happy. Wishing you and him the best of luck.
