Help for hyper dog...

Post by momPaws »

Hi Guys, as my BC gets older she is more and more agitated by small things. While thunder storms used to bother her, now she gets hyper at the first raindrop...paces, drolls, can't relax. Any noises seems to get her motor going. She is in good health and just had check-up.
The vet prescribe tranquilizers don't work well. I saw something called Serene-Um from vet med site...anyone know about this stuff. This is the ingredients: Guaranteed Analysis:
Amino Acids..30,000 mg
Nicotinamide..26,000 mg
Inositol..26,000 mg
Vitamin B6..14,000 mg
Zinc Citrate..1,700 mg
Selenium..50 mg
Vitamin E..500 mg
Vitamin D3..100 IU
I am desperate! (Maybe I should take it! Or have you tried something you would recommend? - for your dog, I mean

I've tried the Serene-Um and I didn't see any results. I've also tried rescue remedy. You can also use that. It seem to think it takes the edge off but Amanda will still be pretty nervouse, she just won't want to jump through a window or anything. I also use Acepromazine. When I know we are going to get sever thunderstorms, I'll give her 1/4 of a 25 mg tablet. I don't like to do that very often because it really knocks her out. She is close to 90 pounds. The Acepromazine is the only thing that will help her sleep through a thunderstorm. I haven't found anything else that works.

Amanda also gets hyper when it rains. She thinks the thunder is coming next. She is 8 1/2 years and it does seem to get worse as she gets older.
