I hope I am posting in the right place for this question!!
I was desperately searching online for anything to keep my girls from peeing other places than the litter box (sofa, laundry basket, plastic bags left out, for example)...
I found a place with something called scatmat...but not sure if it really is okay, even though they say vet approved....
Anyone ever use these?...opinions?...good/bad?...
I do not want to have to get rid of them in any way...but my house is smelling awful...I am at my wits end...
Thanks
Scat Mat?
Re: Scat Mat?
Doubt the scatmat would be effective.
Best thing to do is treat areas already marked with enzymatic cleaners, like Nature's Miracle or Simple Green.
Don't leave laundry, clothes or even the laundry basket accessible to them because they will be prime targets for marking.
Don't leave plastic bags accessible to them.
Try spraying febreeze on the sofa. If the cats are prone to a certain area on your sofa or other furniture, try using a quick spray of Bitter Apple (DON'T spray this around your cats, let dry thoroughly before allowing them near...it might also be irritating to you for a moment, so just a quick spray will be effective for the furniture)

Re: Scat Mat?
Before I knew what kind of litterbox training I'd be up against with Guinevere and the kittens, I lined the floor in the room with the boxes and underneath the food with wee-wee pads. Initially, and not knowing any better, I bought the ones for dogs which are chemically treated to teach the dog to go ON the pad. Only had one or two incidents of that with the cats. Instead, I now use the underpads by Depends or any other manufacturer of human incontinence products. They work pretty well with occassional spills and "oops" and save my back from scrubbing the floor 10 times a day.
The only thing is that when she's done in the box, instead of covering up her business inside, Gwen swipes and paws at the pad outside of the box.
Good luck!

Thanks...I have gone through gallons of enzymatic cleaners...and I also have febreeze...the only thing I can think of why they keep doing it is because the beagle pees, and sometimes has a few drips and then lays on the couch, or wherever...and they smell that, and go...with nice days, the beagle is outside all day long...and his food and water stay outside, so when he is inside, he is less likely to even have to go...
I will just keep treating with the enzymes and febreeze and hope it works in time...but with these humid days we have been having (75% today)...it sure does not help with the smell anyways...*sighs*...
These are girls I am still hoping to find homes for....maybe if they are all "singles" or with just one other, they would not be tempted to go elsewhere and just use the litterbox if they do not have to share...I cannot have 4 litter boxes in my kitchen/dining/living area and another 4 in the upstairs and downstairs halls and bathroom!!....and we do not have a downstairs bathroom...Litter boxes do not make for decorative accents...LOL...
We really only ever had 4 cats, until this last year, when we seemed to get an abundance of baby strays or left behinds or losts...and we could not bear to leave them in the winter to fend for themselves and brought them in to nurse and get healthy to go to good homes...now the hard part is finding homes...and parting with them fter so much care invested...not so much financially, but emotionally...but lately, I am ready to let them go...emotions or not!!
