5 Yr old male Siamese is missing hair, two spots on his face

Post by AEWojo »

I need help! I am not sure what is going on. I don't think that it is ringworm, I had a kitten years ago who had ringworm and I caught it. So I remember what it looks like. I have 3 siamese cats. All of them are indoor...they have all been on the same food for at least two years now. My husband and I both try to scoop the poop everyday if not every other day. I noticed today that my male, Cappy, was missing a chunk of hair on the left side of his face. Probably the size of my thumbnail. The outer part of the mark looks of dried blood and the center is shiny like his skin was ripped or something...so I don't know if this is the result of a battle gone wrong or if this is something we should be concerned about. He has a scab on the bottom of his chin...which is healing...he is the only one who gets these. He is usually pretty aggressive with the other two when they are playing...so I am somewhat sure that this is the result of the other two defending themselves when they play.

So is there something particular that I should look for that may indicate if it is more serious? Certain signs in change to it or anything? I haven't noticed any change in sleep patterns or eating patterns. Can someone please help me ASAP!!

Thanks Ashley

Ashley, how old is Cappy?

If this looks like a scratch from another cat, it is probably just that. But, if this occurs quite often, and mainly on the face area (or other parts of the body), I would suggest getting him seen by your vet to rule out other potential concerns, such as skin allergies, infection, lesions, etc.

Well, it's difficult to give you a guess here without seeing what the scabs look like. You said he had one healing on his chin, but is it a scratch or maybe feline acne? If feline acne, this could spread to the mouth and cheek areas, but rarely beyond that. Food allergies, however, can worsen in some cases and affect the entire face and neck areas. Another rule-out would be flare-ups of eosinophilic granuloma complex (i.e., indolent ulcers), which can flare up during times of stress or due to a food allergy. Both food allergies and indolent ulcers can appear as just that, ulcerations, open skin, postule-like lesions.

When in doubt, best to see your vet.
