Scratching

Post by Donna (Mou) »

Traci,

My little Yorkie girl scratches ALL the time. I have put FRONTLINE on her
twice, (once a month), and I refuse to do it again. Don't like the stuff,
but know it is useful but not 3 times, IMO. It gives her the runs for one
thing.
She is groomed and the groomer says she doesn't see fleas, but she
sure itches. I can't see any reason, like redness on the skin. I don't
think it is dry skin. HELP! Should I take her to the vet, I just can't see
what he will find.[/b]

If you think she needs flea treatment, you might try Advantage instead. While rare, some dogs can have an allergic reaction or sensitivity to even the best of products. So, that would be a conservative action, simply switching to Advantage.

Also might rule out the products your groomer is using. Check them out carefully and be scrutinizing of the ingredients....if they are "all-natural" or contain other ingredients that seem strange to you, ask your groomer to use something more mild (in this case, like an oatmeal-based or hypoallergenic shampoo, and NO perfumes at the end of the grooming session...many pet shops and groomers use perfume sprays as the last application during the grooming...totally unneccessary in my opinion)

If the scratching continues past a week, I would definately see your vet, to rule out atopic problems, flea allergy dermatitis, other skin allergies or afflictions.

Thanks Traci. Hope Davet has fun.
Hugs for everyone, and prayers for those who want them.
