Is there anything on earth that gets urine out of carpet?

Post by guest »

When my cat was little, before she was fully litter trained, she would pee on my carpet in the same spot right under the coffee table. It's been almost a year since then. And for a whole year I have put up with the stinch I smell every time I lay on the couch, thinking with time it would go away. Well, it hasn't.
I have tried all kinds of carpet cleaners and carpet fresheners...nothing, and I mean NOTHING will take the smell out!!! Everytime I lay on a certain part of the couch, I can smell it strong and loud and it's overwhelming how awful it smells.
I know she doesn't do it anymore....it's definently old urine that I'm smelling. I just don't know how to get it out!!
I have even considered replacing my carpet - that's how bad it is.

Is there ANYTHING that will get cat urine smell out of the carpet? I have tried a lot of different products with no success.
I know there has to be some of you here that have had this problem - what did you do?

I really can't take the smell anymore...Anyone have any suggestions?

That didn't really help me much. In the first one, her problem was that her cat kept peeing on the carpet - mine does not.
On the second one, she was concerned with cleaning her CEMENT floor, I am wanting something to clean carpet.

And this odor that I am smelling is several months old. It's definently old urine. I have tried febreze and similar products, but they just mask the odor for a day or two..they don't get rid of it.

So thanks for the try, Jason....but does anyone have any more suggestions?

Have you tried lemon juice or tomato juice? If they can cut the smell of a skunk, they should be able to handle cat pee.

BTW, if you have a pad under your carpet, you will not get rid of the smell unless you get it out of both the pad and carpet.

I live in my own little world,
but it's okay.......they know me here.......

Hi,

Actually, both links did provide you with excellent suggestions that apply directly to your problem. Both suggested enzymatic cleaners such as "Nature's Miracle" and "Simple Solution." I suggest you try one of these. I have a bottle of SS right in front of me and it says it is for use on carpets, clothing, tile, concrete, brick and any other surface where water is safe to use. It is used for urine, vomit, feces, blood, dirt and grass. Works on both new and old problem areas. Go to the pet store and get some..try it. Hope it works for you.

I got some stuff called "Out! Cat Spray & Urine Odor and Stain Remover"....and this stuff works really well.

Cat urine smell is hard to get out, espcially if it's set in, but this stuff works great.

I found it in the cat section in Wal-Mart next to the toys and soft food.
