Thought we were getting along well after the ear infection cleared up but now, Callie a 4 year old calico female's upper lips are puffy. Looks like she has a poor fitting set of dentures.
She is eating and seems to be ok in every other way. Any ideas as to what the problem might be?
Had this problem before and took her to the vet and they really could not figure out what was wrong. They gave us clavamox and it did clear it up.
Puffy Upper Lips
Re: Puffy Upper Lips
Could be a number of things.....really should get her seen again.
Since it responded to antibiotics last time, it could have been a mild infection. But, you need to know she isn't developing or suffering gingivitis or tooth problems/abcess/oral ulcers.
Another rule out would be indolent ulcer (i.e.,rodent ulcer, otherwise known as a type of eosinophilic granuloma complex). These are lesions and inflammation that can erupt in or around the mouth during times of stress, sometimes due to an allergy (whether food or other), allergic reaction, immunological, and sometimes by mites, fleas, other insects.
Lastly, need to rule out insect bite or spider bite. If the swelling is severe and occured suddenly and is worsening, don't hesitate to see your vet ASAP. Best to get Callie seen right away anyway.
