We just moved into a new house and ever since we got here (1 month), my male chihuahua has been marking all over the house. With my black light, I have counted over 20 times. Can anyone tell me what I should do?
I am literally not letting him out of his pen unless I do nothing but watch him. He hasnt marked since I've done this, but he is miserable being locked up for such a huge portion of the day and night. Can anyone tell me whether I can expect this to stop, or whether I have a real problem on my hands. He is 15 months old and I JUST got him potty trained about 4 months before we moved, and now I am dealing with this. Does anyone have any insights???

Re: marking
Since stress (your recent move) can induce any number of health conditions, you might want to get him checked by your vet first and foremost to rule out urinary tract infection.
Otherwise, you may have to start over with the potty-training. And/or, take him outside several times a day whether you feel he needs to urinate or not. Each time he does urinate outside, reward him with a treat or playtime session.

Well, the potty training thing isnt working. It doesnt have anything to do with not knowing where to go. He goes outside and does his business everyday, but there is something in him that wants to just put his scent everywhere.

When I brought in my Chihuahuas (that were supposedly housebroken) from rescue one of them wanted to mark everywhere. I made Smokey a belly band out of some fabric, velco and I used a kotex pad (without wings) in it to absorb the pee. I was told to use a panty liner but I didn't find it stayed snug enough on him and spun around, so then it was useless. Here is a link to belly bands on the internet, but If you are even a bit handy on your sewing machine, you can whip one one yourself in about 10 minutes. Once he quits marking you can get him out of it.
