Has anyone tried Nutro Ultra?

Post by Marty »

I switched my dogs (slowly) about a month ago from Nutro Natural Small Bites. The last 2 mornings, Louie vomited it up...not in the evenings, though (as far as I know). Before that, he didn't finish it....maybe 3 times. And he is a good eater. He is a 2 yr rescue hound and very healthy. Maybe I will have to go back to the old food, and see what happens then.

I'm using my second bags right now. I have Angel on the Senior formula, and Foxy is on the reduced calorie formula. Allie is on a mixture of the two. I couldn't find a reduced calorie formula that both Foxy and I liked, and she'll eat this one. She and Allie both seem to be doing well on it. I switched Angel from the regular Nutro Senior because her coat was so dull after her surgery, and I thought the salmon and other ingredients might help with that. (Althogh I was hesitant because of the lamb in it). So far, there isn't any difference in her coat. If that continues, I'll probably go back to the older formula, simply because of the cost difference.

None of my three have experienced any difficulties switching from the other Nutro formulas, even though all have had problems with lamb in the past (gas). I think the Ultra is richer, it may just be too rich for Louie. I guess if you go back to the older formula and the problem clears up, it was something in the food that didn't agree with him. If it doesn't clear up, then it's something else. Hope you get it figured out.

Thanks for your comments. I was thinking it might be richer, but someone told me it was an old food in new packaging (which certainly doesn't justify the cost). Will have to research ingredients....

Interesting. If you find out that this is true, please let me know. It doesn't look like any of the recent Nutro Natural formulas, but it might be an older formula or something.

Hi Mary- I had the same problem with Nutro...she threw up on it...and tried to re-introduce her to it another time and same problem. There was something going around about that food (not good), but i can't remember what.

I fed Nutro products for a long time, until they started screwing around with their formulas, and both my girls began to vomit. The formula on the bag I had at that time was exactly as what was on previous bags. Other people were having the same problem. Ultimately, we found out that the formula had been changed (even though Nutro's claimed there was no change) after they ran out of the old bags they were putting the new formula in, and then packaged in the new ones with the new forumula.

I finally gave up on Nutro's, and began feeding my new girl Wellness Sweet Potato and Fish. While it is not a cheap food to feed, I don't have to feed her a lot of it for her to maintain her weight, and she has done very well on it. When I first got her, her coat was dull and her skin dry. After 3 weeks on the Wellness, there was a marked improvement and now has the best coat of any dog I've owned. She utilizes a great deal of this food, so there is less stool volume than I had with my other dogs on Nutro's, and am feeding her the same amount.

You could try something like California Natural. I use it for my cat who has the same problem your doggie does. My cat is doing great on it. It has less ingredients mainly for dogs with allergys but my dog LOVES the food. It is good on sensative stomaches so it amy be worth a try. good luck
