Fat Chihuahua delemma
My Chihuahua Chewie has become quite the fat tub, but it's a bit of a problem and I could use some advice. First of all he takes Pepsid because when he gets an empty tummy he vomits. So, as per the vet's advice he gets 1/4 of a Pepsid pill, plus small meals over the day. This has helped his vomiting problem a fair bit. I don't know if you will recal, but what prompted his diet change was he got aspirated pneumonia from vomiting when he got dizzy and fell over. Anyway, even though I am still feeding him the same amout over the course of the day, he has really put on a lot of weight. So, I switched over to light dog food and tried to cut him back. Only when I cut him back he pukes more again. He gets lots of exercise, plus has a big back yard to run around in too. Any suggestions how he can loose a pound or two without causing his tummy to go funny.

i couldn't even guess at this but as always it is calories in verses calories out...you mkight ask the vet about another type of antispasmotic...i used to recdcomend pediatric Hapanal---might be worth a try

I seem to remember something about dogs gaining weight on the lite food....I think it had to do with less protein and more filler. As a Basset owner, I have found a lot of people add unsalted green beans to their regular food (slighly reduced amount of kibble). Makes them feel full without the calories. Good luck!

Hmm, I guess I will have to see if he likes green beans. I only just started them on the light food, so I know that didn't cause it. What caused it is he's a little piggy!! LOL

Nope, but that sounds like a good idea. Especially since none of my other dogs are fat and he's the only one turning into a bratwurst on legs.
