cat's litterpan habits

Post by salemgirl1999 »

Help!!! My adopted cat of 3 months has started swiping her tail through her stool in the litter box. She has long hair and it makes an awful mess. Does anyone have any suggestions? We bought a new litter box with a lid and thought maybe the opening was too low and she needed to lower her tail to exit the box, thus getting the tip of her tail dirty. She meticulously will clean the side of the litter box of any loose litter that she strewed, but she will not clean her tail. She either makes a mess by swiping it over my hardwood floors or the door facing or wall until I'm able to wash it off. If I'm at work when this happens, it has usually dried on the end of her tail and I have to cut it out. Can anyone help?? Her last owner would shave her tail, I really don't want to do that, but it's becoming a daily habit. Thanks for any suggestions!!!
