Hyperthyroid in toy poodle

My toy poodle will be 10 years in 1 1/2 months. She has just been diagnosed with hyperthyroid with an initial dose of thyro-tab of .1 mg. Her symptoms were weight gain & lethargy. The vet originally didn't think it was thyroid but we insisted on the blood test which came back positive. How quickly might we see results? Will she lose weight? Thanks in advance for any replies.

My 10 year old lhasa received the same diagnosis back in February. About a week after starting meds she was MUCH perkier and happier; and she has dropped enough weight that I've had to increase the amount I feed her. She was only getting 2/3 cup kibble before diagnosis in an effort to keep the weight off and was still about 2 lbs. too heavy. She's now up to 3/4 cup and is at a great weight.

So, a change in energy level happened really quickly and the weight loss happened over the course of 2 months or so.

Thank you Wini's mom. That is very encouraging. Tia seems to have a bit of diarrhea and I was wondering if you (or anyone else) knows if that could be a side effect of levothyroxine sodium (thyro-tab). Tia does have a very sensitive tummy so any change seems to bother her.
