can someone explain...

Post by Erica »

Hip Dysplasia to me? I'm going to be picking up my newly adopted Great Pyreness from the vet on Teusday. He's going in for ear cleaning (it's horrible, actually causing him pain, poor baby) and he's also getting x-rays to check for hip dysplasia. There's some question over whether he has it or not. I found some sites but I don't really understand it or how to help treat/prevent it. If anyone has any links to a site that has a sort of dumbed-down version or can explain it, I'd appreciate it. Also, any good food to help a dog gain weight? He's horribly underweight and I'm just curious as to how to help him. Thanks!

Hip Dysplasia

Hi Erica,

I have two links bookmarked about Canine Hip Dysplasia and both of the websites seem to have a good section on both medical and surgical treatment options for dogs who are diagnosed with hip dysplasia.

racheal submitted for you...HD is so complicated and so misunderstood that if you were taking a stateboard exam you could probably give 20 different causes, 20 different treatments and 20 different prognoses and no one could find you wrong..heredity, rapid growth, diet, exercise etc etc etc..all are involved andn then there is the problem of early diagnoses...since i was in practice i think every two or three years a new from of early diagnoses would come out, as well as a new form of treatment etc etc etc...after you read every thing take your choice...
