My cat is having a weird problem that Ive never heard of.
He is eating his toenails and seems to find them very tasty.
History- 6 year old male neutered, indoor/outdoor, mostly indoor, 2 dogs in house
About 2 months ago switched him from Max Cat lite to Innova (chicken) and he is currently eating the 2 mixed. He was scratching a lot so I wanted to try changing foods but I think the warmer weather is helping that. He also eats lots of table scraps (but is not oerweight). Otherwise a healthy cat as far as I know.
Anyways, I found a couple blood droplets near where he was sleeping.. coudlnt find anything wrong with him. Later that day I was petting him and pulled out a cat nail- which when I held it up to look the cat leaned over and ate it! He does kind of eat anything though.
But then I looked at his feet and found 3 of his toenails kind of chewed down to bloody stubs. the front claws were all fine.
When I stick his back foot up near his face he starts licking and chewing on his nails! I don't know what is going on... anyone ever heard of this before?
thanks!

Re: cat eating its toenails
might be a good idea for you to clip the nails before they get long enought that the cat wants to shorten them itself
Re: cat eating its toenails
I keep his nails clipped very regularly. He does not mind the clipping procedure. I have even got the quick in the past but he doesnt seem to realize that its related to the clipping.
