liquid potpourri ingestion.....

I had to rush my cat to the vet this morning because he was lethargic and drooling heavily/tongue was sticking out. I believe the cause is from liquid potpourri because last night I found blue footprints on my floor leading from my burner. I didn't have the burner filled but there was some residue in it and I believe after he stepped in it he groomed himself, which is why he is sick. The vet did an x ray, gave him antibiotic, diuretic and anti-inflammatory shots and also subcutaneous iv. The x ray was clear. His temp was 104.5 but when the vet checked it again (about 2 hrs later) it was 102. It's been about 4 hours since he's been home from the vet and he is still drooling, lethargic and is hiding under the bed. I'm wondering if there was something else that should have been done for him that I can bring to my vet's attention or if this is something that just has to run its course. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.

It certainly sounds like this may be a possibility based on your description. Did your vet draw any blood to test liver/kidney functions or CBC for infection? Did he check inside kitty's mouth for burns or ulcers? I hope that she will start to perk up soon. Good luck. kk

Thanks so much for the link and for your well-wishes. The symptoms that were in the article pretty much describe what my cat is going through so now I'm almost certain that was the cause. The vet did not check inside the mouth, but she did do blood work and liver/kidneys were fine. She did not do a cbc either. I just checked in on him and he seems a tiny bit better, his tongue is no longer out and he isn't drooling. He does hiss and growl at me though, something he never does, so I know he must be very uncomfy. Hopefully I will be able to check his mouth to see if an ulcer has formed. Thanks again for your help!
