Help, Mollie ate a piece of thread!!

Post by Molliesmum »

Hi all,

Our kitten, Mollie is a bit of a vacuum.

Well, last night I noticed a piece of thread on the carpet, like something
from clothes (it was quite long) I remember thinking that I should pick it
up, but, before I could, Mollie ate it!

Will she be OK? She has been eating since she ate the thread, and she has passed a motion, so I'm guessing she isn't blocked up, but I'm just really worried it might cause something nasty internally.

Am I worrying unnecessarily? Is there anything I should look out for?

Thanks!

as with all things, there are potentials at play with this. was it a thin piece of thread? it might just pass through but watch her like a hawk as it could get tangled on the way down.

any sign of lethargy or eating/discharging changes should indicate a need for x-ray to be sure it's not hung up.

I'll keep an eye out, but she's still eating like a horse, and she's running around like a mad thing!

It was quite a thick piece of thread, that's why I'm worried.

trhick or thin it doesn't matter it can drag through and cut and as Jason says watch her very closly,,,any arching of the back regurgitation andything unusuall...string is hard to diagnose to keep an eye on her bowell movements to see if it comesw through...if you see it hangingout the rear end you can pull very gently but the least sign of resistance get her to thevet....

Still no sign of the thread! Obviously I only have a look, there's no sifting through!

Her toilet is normal, and she still seems fine. Playing as normal, and still eating the same amount of food.

What do I do if it doesn't come out?! Would it have passed through her system by now?

depending on the length and the thickness it may have passed un seen but keep looking for symptons or the thread one of the other...had a cat come in once with thread sticking out of the butt...pulled gently on it and it kept coming out finally all the way out with a sewing needle still attached...the thread had drug the needle through, blunt end first, and the owners had no idea the cat had eatend it...She, the owner knew when she used that thread and needle about a week before....cats are weird...
