Cat with diarrhea

Post by allison896 »

:( I am wondering if anyone has ever had a cat who suddenly got the diarrhea. My cat appears to be just fine. He acts the same as he ever has and is alert and bright eyed. However, I came home last night to see that he had the diarrhea and had made a couple of messes of it on my floor. After cleaning these messes, he has not made any more, but I can tell by cleaning out his litter box that he still has the diarrhea. I was going to take away his food completely, but that seems to freak out him and my other cat. Besides, I am already feeding them a Sensitive Stomach cat food. ARe there any treatments that I can give him to help this situation. Yogurt, kayopectate, ect...???

Yogurt will harden your cat's stools, BUT you don't need to ignore the problem. Could be something, especially if it's come out of nowhere . . . I'd make a trip to the vet if it continues.

You can try boiling some plain white rice and mixing a little with her food, but there's no guarantee she will eat it. Also, my vet told me it's ok to give my cat Imodium in very small doses, probably less than the recommended children's dose. However, my little one had the runs bad and I took her to the Vet--he gave her a shot for the spasms and also some medicine to take home. It cleared up quite quickly after that.

There are numerous causes for diarrhea such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, food allergy or reaction, worms, just to name a few. The best thing you can do is take her to the vet to have it checked out. He can give you the propermedication and food regimen based on the cause. Please don't forget to take a stool sample so they can test for worms.
I hope it's smetig very minor and easy to treat!
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

My cats just got over a bought of diarrhea. It was such a mess, especially when they track it all over the house!!
:(

I took them off of food for 24 hours and it was gone. I tried giving them boiled rice, but they wouldn't have it.

Good luck!
