Pregnancy and Labour

Post by Trish »

How will I know when she is about to go into labour? I would really like to have her in my bedroom or spare room when she is about to have the babies. We have another cat and I'm worried that he might do something. Plus I read that she should be on her own in her own space when having them. If I'm not able to detect in time that she is about to have the babies can I move her to another room, and if so when should I do that...between birth, after all the births or as she's in labour? I have a box made for her. What should I do if she doesn't make it to the box? Will she go there on her own? Sorry for all the questions but I would really like to be prepared as she is getting close (the babies are moving inside of her) and would like her to be as confortable as possible.

Thank You In Advance

you cat will go into labor when you leasyt expect it...have a housefull of guests over and she will start...plan something big and she will probalbystart alao,, usuall they will exhibit posturing and straing any where from two minutes to two hours before delivery` it is really difficult to predict them but might be good to leave a box with old towells in the bath room, closet, some isolated corner or where you would least expect her to want to deliver...once she starts keep the other cat away...if she does go into labor and strains for more than two hourse call your vet....cats do pretty well but keep the other cat a way..kids are ok but other cats can be a problem..you can mpove her anytime you want duroing labor but don;t be suprised after all is done she brings the kittens back into the spot she had originally known...cat haveing kittens is a learning experince

The morning of the day my cat gave birth I noticed she turned her nose up at her food. This was very unusual behavior for her because she lives to eat! I said to my husband that I thought she would deliver that day and sure enough when we came home she was giving birth -- it was about 10 hours later although she was in progress. I couldn't say exactly when it started. I guess you'll notice something unusual about your kitty's behavior and that could be a clue!

Keep an eye on your kitty and have an emergency vet # handy especially because these things usually happen after your vet's office is closed!

Well today has been an unusual day. My cat was meowing so I picked her up to give her some attention and when she jumped down (about a minute later) there was a brown chunk with some discharge around it on my pants. I have put her in the bedroom today (which she isn't happy about) just incase it happens.
